Munument-space

When we where discussing about what does a monument do with the space my example was the stone in a place where a cameraman was shot from a near by hill. I just found a video of that moment (1991). Btw I heard that there might be only to documentaries (including this) where a cameraman is killed during shooting.

I saw this man...

who looked super scary and smelled like hydrogen (it starts to evaporate from the skin when a certain amount of alcohol is reached in blood) and had that blue balloon connected to his jacket.

Every day I pass trough this center of Kontula and almost every time I see wasted, middle-aged people hanging/lying/throwing up around the karaoke bars. Pub Paris is the best I think. I should still go to the Archive for more information about this place and to visit Pub Paris for once, but for now I think to work with this topic and/or area and/or character.

Now about my monument's idea, I would like inversing this process. Find a solution to show at the public these little things, and invite people to walk around the city with different tour or without, like free urban walks. Just walking, becoming to be free to looking and to be touch by the environment.

Estonia trip

I came back Saturday evening in Helsinki. I did a little trip in Estonia where I walked a lot in and around the city of Tartu and Tallinn. Nice walks during days and nights.
Tartu is a small town, with a quiet pretty center and a periphery more poor and faded. It was my first time in these kind of country, with a soviet union past. The idea of monument is very important there. There are a lot, and I went to the art school where in sculpture department students learn how make stone/bronze sculpture (idea of perenial sculpture) and every courses doing focus on this idea of memory, on the classical way of the monument.

An illegally installed statue of a Soviet soldier raping a pregnant woman has been removed in Gdansk, northern Poland.

“The artist was detained and released after questioning,” police spokesperson Aleksandra Siewert told Polish Radio.
“The matter will be taken up on Monday by the prosecutor's office,” she confirmed.
The statue, entitled Komm Frau (Come Here Woman) was installed on Gdansk's Avenue of Victory (Aleja Zwyciestwa) late on Saturday evening.

The statue, entitled Komm Frau (Come Here Woman) was installed on Gdansk's Avenue of Victory (Aleja Zwyciestwa) late on Saturday evening.
Artist Jerzy Szumczyk, a fifth year student at Gdansk's Academy of Fine Arts, told Polish Radio that he had read extensively on the subject of rape by the Red Army as it advanced across Eastern Europe towards Berlin from 1944-45.

Szumczyk claimed he “was unable to cope with it” and so created a statue to express his feelings.
Historians have estimated that over 1 million German women were raped by Soviet soldiers from 1944-45.
Prior to the German invasion of Poland in 1939, Gdansk was a free city (Danzig). Over 95 percent of the inhabitants were German.
The rape of Polish women was also commonplace (1944-47) during the Soviet liberation of Poland, although to a significantly lesser degree, with highest estimates at 100,000.
